An antique Italian Baroque period carved medallion featuring a round shaped Medusa portrait bust. Circa 18th century. Carved from a green semi precious stone, presumably aventurine, the portrait depicts Medusa with wide eyes, wavy hair, and small wings in it. Comes with a stand. In Greek mythology, Medusa, also called Gorgo, was one of the three monstrous Gorgons, generally described as human females with living venomous snakes in place of hair.
